1、Instructional design 1.Overall Design This is a listening and speaking lesson. In this lesson I mainly employed Task-based Teaching Method, Natural Approach as well as the Communicative Language Teaching Method aims at improving students comprehensive language competence. First of all, drawing on th
2、e Natural Approach, the lesson will start a real-life conversation and explaining the competition between the teacher and the students to arouse students curiosity. Then I will play a game with the students to impress students the key words and background knowledge of April Fools Day so as to make p
3、reparation for the following listening session. In the third section, I mainly use Task-based Teaching Method to assist students to fully understand the listening materials and grasp the method of talking about past experience subconsciously. With the former three sections, students will receive a l
4、arge amount of input of the narration of the past events, then in the next section I designed a speaking task to train students ability of transforming input into output. Finally, I will ask students to tell their own stories. This section is an evaluation of students command of simple past tense an
5、d their ability of talking about past experience. Therefore, this section is employed as a reinforcement of studentscomprehensive language competence. 2.Teaching Context This is a listening and speaking lesson. The lesson focuses on talking about past experience, aiming at letting students narrate p
6、ast events. It mainly consists of warming up, listening and speaking parts. The first warming-up part mainly is intended to lead the students to the class and arouse their interest in the topic. Then the second listening section aims at providing students with initial input of the linguistic express
7、ions to talk about past experience subconsciously. Finally, the third speaking session mainly targets at improving students ability of language output, and thus realizing the goal of communicative teaching. Therefore, the three sections of this unit, abiding by the “output after input” sequential pr
8、inciple in teaching, progress step by step, and proceed from experience to exploration and finally to language application. All these can effectively realize the objectives of improving students comprehensive language competence. The objects of this lesson are students in Grade 9. Students in this p
9、hase has already learned some tenses such as simple past tense. However, junior students lack the ability of systematic autonomous language learning and some students have no confidence of English learning. Therefore, it requires teachers to set up the tasks from easy to the advanced to guide them.
10、Whats more, junior students tend to focus on image thinking because of the absence of the mature, abstract, and logical thinking, thus teachers should design various interesting, fun and relaxing activities to sustain studentsinterests and attention. 3.TeachingAims Aims of knowledge: (1) master and

19、ty of transforming what they have heard into an oral composition and grasp the methods of talking about past experience. Step 6: Speaking1 Have you ever played jokes on others, especially on April Fools Day? Have you ever been fooled by others. Tell your story to your partner.(at least 6 sentences)
20、The purpose of my design: the retelling session aims at training students ability of talking about past experience. It is a preeminent way to examine students ability of transforming the input through listening into the output by speaking. Step 7:Speaking2 Discussion: Should we celebrate April Fools
21、 Day by fooling others? Why or why not? The purpose of my design: fooling others is the normal way to celebrate April Fools Day. However, as time passes by, is it still the proper or only way to spend the holiday? Through the discussion, the students will get their own opinions on it. And it is a go
22、od way to cultivate the students critical thinking. Step 8: Homework: Designing a party forApril Fools Day and make a poster for the party The purpose of my design: this section is aimed at guiding students to reinforce what they have learned in the class.
