(Story time), Grade 4 Semester 2Contents It is the first period of Unit 7 Whats the matter? It is from the second semester of Grade 4, published by Yilin.I design my class on the viewpoints of students and I try to take their needs into account. So Ill consider more about students interests and emotion. Teaching viewpointAt the beginning of my class, Ill make an introduction with the topic “Im a foodie”, in order to get close to my students. In this period, the students will meet the new words “hungry” and “thirsty” for the first time. In order to attract the students attention and construct an atmosphere of learning English, I will let students play a game. At the game time, they can practice the sentence “Whats the matter?”and the words “hungry, thirsty” with their body language. So that they can understand the words clearly and eager to use the sentence freely. Then I will offer Taotaos diary as an exercise. Students will review the learned knowledge by finishing this oral practice. After reading the diary, they are willing to go into the new story and find the answer about 2whats the matter with Taotao?During the story learning, students will find the general idea after watching the cartoon, then I will divide the story into two parts: parents love and Taotaos needs. In each part, Ill give students some necessary clues so that they can finish the tasks with their partners. It can develop students abilities of communication and cooperation. In this way, they can do the following tasks by themselves easily. After a deep understanding of the story, students can use the sentence patterns “Can I have.?” “Im . ” “I want to.” in the real situation. Then, students will read the whole story in different ways which can help them imitate the intonation of the characters. Whats more, students will get across to the parents love by acting. So that they cant wait to show love to their parents. Theyll say a chant with love at this time.And the story is not over. Students will continue to write the story with my help. They can use the new words and sentence patterns to make up the story step by step. In the process of story writing, they will show love to their parents and experience success .SummaryIn a word, the whole class is based on tasks. The students can 3acquire information, knowledge, and have their abilities and skills trained. So during the whole class, I try to give students plenty of space for self-development and also give them as many language practice chance as possible. Students not only learn how to use the sentence patterns, but also learn how to communicate, how to be a good person, how to love and care other people and so on.
