The text in 3a focuses on the introducing the origin of Chinese festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival. 教 学 目 标 1. Knowledge goals: To understand some key words and useful expressions: folk, whoever, steal, lay out, dessert, tradition, admire. To know about the story about Change. 2. Ability goals: To learn to get information by skimming and scanning. To learn to retell the story of Change. 3. Emotion goals: To arouse the students enthusiasm for traditional Chinese festivals. 教 学 重 难 点 Teachings key points: 1. To understand the new words and target language in 3a. 2. To improve the students reading skills of skimming and scanning. 3. To develop students skills of retelling stories. Teaching difficult points: To develop the students skills of retelling stories. 教 学 方 法 与 学 习 策 略 1. For the teaching methods, this class will use the task-based teaching method and institutional teaching method. 2. For learning strategies, I will provide more group works during the class. And let the students take actively part in these activities, because activities are the best way for students to grasp the target language. Also the students will learn the reading skills of skimming and scanning to get information. 学 情 分 析 In this lesson, students will learn to talk about the festivals. And they will know much about the culture of Chinese festivals. All of them will be interested in this part, since the topic is related to their real life. As Grade 9 students, polarization is common among them. Ask them to complete the important words and useful expressions on their papers. Step II : While Reading 【Task One】Fast reading Let the students answer two questions: What story is the reading about? How do people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival? 【Task Two】 Careful Reading 1. Ask the students to read paragraph 1 and answer the questions on their papers. Check the answers. 2. Ask the students to read paragraph 2 and match the characters with events. Check the answers. 3. Let them read the whole passage quickly and do 3b on their books. Check the answers. Step III:Post Reading 【Task Three】 1. Fill in the blanks in 3c Let them do 3c. And check the answers. 2. Retell the story First ask them to retell the Step II: Reading 1. Read the title, picture and the topic sentences to find out the answers to the questions quickly. 2.Read paragraph 1 and answer the questions on their papers. 3. Read and match the heroes with what they did in the story. Show the answers. 4. Read it the story as a whole again and put the events in order in 3b. Step III:Retelling 1. Do 3c in groups. 2. Retell the story by filling the blanks. 3. Watch the video of the story and work in groups to retell the story one by one. Step IV: Extension Get to know about more traditional festivals . The video will offer a vivid situation to help the Ss to preview new words and lead them in to the new lesson as well. This step aims at improving the ability to skim for main ideas. This step aims at improving the Ss ability to scan for details. This step aims at helping the Ss to get a general understanding of the text and get prepared to retell it in the following step. This step aims at improving their skills of retelling stories. This step is designed to arouse the Ss enthusiasm for traditional Chinese festivals. 3 story by filling in the blanks. Then get the Ss to work in groups to retell the story one by one with the help of the key words. Step IV: Extension Introduce more traditional Chinese festivals to the students. Step V.
