4、e a few basics that can make you go smoothly at western restaurants. Wheres my water glass? At a crowded table with several diners, its often hard to tell which glass, napkin or coffee cup is yours. This can be especially difficult if the table is round. Solve the problem by looking at the place set

5、ting in front of you. Your liquids (water, coffee,tea, etc.) are always located on your right. Non-liquids, such as a bread plate, are always on the left. Now that I know which water glass is mine, can I drink some? Certainly, as long as you put a napkin on your lap first. You cant eat, drink or tou

6、ch food on the table without your napkin being in place. Remember, too, that its a napkinnot a handkerchief for blowing your nose or a flag to wave for the waiter staffs attention. Where does my napkin go? There are only three places to place a napkin: (1) on your lap while youre seated at the table

7、; (2) on the seat of your chair if you leave the table but intend to return; and (3) on the table to the right of your plate when the meal ends and you rise to leave the restaurant. What fork do I use first? Theres a simple tactic for remembering which utensils to use: begin at the outside and work

8、toward your plate. Your salad fork is on the outside because youll use that first. Next is the dinner fork. The fork nearest the plate is your dessert fork. What should I do if something falls off the table? Dont panic or make a large deal out of it or get down on your knees to retrieve the fallen i

9、tem. If you need a new napkin, quietly ask the waiter staff for one. To go without a utensil shows bad judgment to the recruiter.
