14、Step III Practice Have students read the sentences with answers in turn. All of the exercises will lay a good foundation to the writing task.Deal with Ex 1&2 in Language Power on Page 74. Ex 1&2 are aimed at the different uses of as and like. By doing Ex 1 students will have a good command of the di

15、fferent uses of as and like.Deal with Ex 3.Ex 3 is designed to practice the linking words and expressions. Deal with Ex 5&6.Ex 5&6 will be a good example of writing. Have students work in groups and do Ex 5&6. Step IV Write a letter of complaintFirst explain the stages to write a letter of complaint

16、 to students. Then students will work in groups to write a letter of complaint.T: Attention, please! In this class weve learned how to use linking words and expressions. Now lets learn some complaints. (Show the complaints on the PowerPoint.) Please read them together.Key Words: Complaints:it wont o

18、sk students to match the products with the Key Words: ComplaintsT: Now please work in groups and match the products (1-7) with the Key Words: Complaints.T: Please imagine you bought one of the products and something went wrong with it. Make notes about these things.What went wrong with the product?W

19、hat false claims did the advertisement make?What happened when you took it back to the shop? You may work in groups and organize your notes into four or five paragraphs. Then use your plan to write the letter. You may refer to Writing Help 2 on Page 98. After finishing the letter, dont forget to che

20、ck your essay. When you write a formal letter of complaint: The structure of a complaint letter should be organized in order to explain exactly what is wrong. The first paragraph should contain essential information such as: what was the product / service ordered / expected, why you were dissatisfie

21、d and how you were affected. The second paragraph should state what is wanted of the individual, company or organization. The third paragraph is the “be nice” paragraph. This is where you thank them for their time. The content of a complaint letter should have a calm and courteous tone. Be sure that

22、 the letter doesnt sound opinionated, aggressive, argumentative or whiny. If you write in a way that frustrates or angers the reader, the letter will not be as affective and the individual(s) at fault will be less likely to comply with your demands. Less offensive expressions will get the message ac

23、ross just as well and the objective of the letter will be accomplished. Writing a letter of complaint is also about the importance of standing up for yourself. Instead of putting up with peoples mistakes, a letter helps to confront them. Confronting them will help the individual(s) to realize their

24、mistake(s) and perhaps they will change the way they conduct their business. They will most likely be thankful to you for helping them improve their company for future customers.As you can see, structure, content, and standing up for yourself are all essential to consider when writing a letter of co

25、mplaint. Once you are familiar with these three elements, the easier it will be to express your disappointments in writing. Simply keep the following three in mind. (Show the following on the PowerPoint.)1) Start your letter with a clear paragraph showing your reason for writing.2) Divide the body o

26、f your letter into paragraphs by using the appropriate linking words and expressions.3) Make sure you say what actions you expect to be taken about your complaint, such as an apology or compensation.Now you are given 10 minutes to write the letter.Students are given enough time to write the letter.

27、After they finish the letter, ask several students to read their letters to the class. Or show their letters on the projector, correct the mistakes with the whole class if there is any.
