Whats the date today? Objectives: Ss will be able to tell months and dates. Ss can ask and answer some simple questions about dates. Step 1: Free talk T talks about the lucky things happened yesterday and tell the students his lucky number. T asks some students to tell others their lucky numbers. Step 2: Warm up Seven down All the students stand up and say the number from 1 to 50, when its time to tell the number 7142128354249, they should keep silent. Step 4: Practice One month turntable 1 T turns the turntable and asks some students “Whats the date today?” and teaches the students the new sentence. 2 Students practice in pairs. 3 Each group sends one member to say the month and date. T turns the turntable. When the turntable stops, its hand will point to one month and date. T asks “Whats the date today?” The student should say it out quickly, or he will lose the game. Step 5: Practice Two Passing the cards 1 T gives the card with month and date to the students. And the student who gets the card shows them and ask another student the question “Is your birthday ?” 2 Students pass the cards and most of the students can have a practice. The students who answer “Yes” should go to stand on the blackboard. Step 6: Practice Three -Quick memory 1 Students standing on the blackboard show the cards and tell the other students about their birthdays by saying “My birthday is .” The other students try to remember their birthdays. 2 T asks the students on the blackboard to stand out one by one and ask the other students about their birthdays. Lets look for the friend for him. 2 Students do the survey and find out who was born in August. S1 to S2: Whens your birthday? S2 answers and S1 write down the month and date. 3 Students find out who was born in August and ask those students to stand on the blackboard. Step 4: Practice Two -Describing the month 1 T pretends to be Gogo and ask the students on the blackboard to do a choosing game. Gogo points to one student and ask the other students: When is her/his/ s birthday? Ss: Her/ His/ s birthday is 2 Gogo shows some words( winter, spring, summer, fall, cold, hot, cool, warm, fly kites, play basketball) and ask the students to choose the words to fill in the blanks in the passage. Eg.: _ is in August. Its _ in August. We can _ in August. We can eat _ in August. We often _ in August. I like August. Its my favorite month. 3 T gives students some passages to fill in the blanks. 4 After filling the blanks, T asks some students to read the passages. Step 5: Practice Three-Card game Each group of four has some cards with months on them. S1 picks up a card, and say something to describe the month. S2, S3, S4 go on the game one by one. Step 6: Practice Four -Sentence relay T says a sentence to begin a passage. Students one by one in different group say a sentence to finish the passage. The group fails to continue will lose the game. Step 7: Consolidation -Reading practice T shows the students a passage and students read the passage and answer the questions. Step 7: Homework Choose one characters birthday in page 41 and try to write something about his birthday.
