1、Module 9 Great inventionsUnit 3 Language in use.I. Analysis of Teaching Material & Target StudentsThe topic of this module is great inventions. And this lesson is for Unit3,so wemainly focus on the language point: Passive voice. In the last 2 modules ,we havelearntabout the past and present passive

2、voice. Of course ,in this module we focuson the future passive voice. As a result, todays lesson is based on the line of greatinventions in the past ,today and future as well as the structures of them.Then, the students are ninth graders, they are active in thoughts and full ofideas .So they are int

3、erest in this topic and have command the relative words. ButThey have relatively limited skills in expressing themselves by using the proper formof the passive voice.II. Teaching objectivesFor learning ability, students will improve their listening skills as well as learnhow to use different tenses

4、of passive voice .For thinking quality, they will learn to think critically and creatively .For language ability, they will learn about different tenses about passivevoice .Also they will be able to come up with different kinds of creative ideas aboutfuture inventions and express them in details fre

5、ely.For culture character, they will learn about the great inventions in both Chinaand other Western countries.III. Key points and difficult pointsAccording to the teaching objectives,The key points are toa ) learn to cognize and define certain words as they are listening to the passage.b ) have a g

6、ood command of the structures of passive voice through inductivemethod.c ) motivate the students think critically and creatively about great inventions.d) develop the students love for our country and the spirit of creation.The difficult points are toa )understand the deep relationship between the p

7、assive voice and different tenses.b) use the proper tenses of passive voice to solve practical problems.c) obtain, promote, and create ideas individually.IV. 8、Teaching procedures:Task 1Lead- in and reviewStep 1 lead inTo lead in the class, the teacher will1) first let the students talk about the Chinese great inventions they know inthe past.2) Two videos of paper making and printing which belongs to the Chinese greatinventions will be given to them.The st

9、udents will1) talk about the Chinese great inventions they know in the past.2) say something about their feelings of the past great inventions ,maybe goodor bad.Purpose:1) To activate the students background knowledge and the videos will arousetheir interest.2) To lead the students think critically

10、about the great inventions in the past.Step 2 ReviewThe teacher presents a short passage which the students have learnt in unit2(The same module). This content of the passage is also about the invention ofpaper making and printing.Purpose:1)In the passage ,some words in red will help the students fe

11、el the function ofthe past passive voice .After appreciation ,they will also know the usage of papermaking and printing-making books.2) The content of this passage makes it easy to lead in the following part-listening part which is also about the books.Task 2ListeningStep 1pre-listeningThe students

12、will1) make predictions and talk about the differences between the books in thepast and today from the aspects of price and quality.2) guess the meaning and part of speech of the words they need to fill in.Step2 While- listeningThe students will1) fill in the tables designed from the listening mater

13、ial2) learn about the situations and the problem about the books in the past andtoday,and find ways to solve it.Purpose: Students can1. learn about the details about the books in the pastand today2. improve the ability of listening for details.Step3Post- listening( Talk about the western great inven

14、tions in the past)The teacher will:1)raise the question”Thanks to the Chinese great inventors Cai Lun and Bi Sheng,we we were able to make books . But both of them are from China,what about thegreat inventors in western countries?”2)Next ,the teacher will show the students some pictures of the Weste

15、rn greatinventors as well as the information of their inventions ,like the time and the places.3) lead the students to talk about these inventions by using the past passivevoice.Then the students will1) Learn about the information first2)work in pairs, practice the information above by using the pas

16、t passive voice.Purpose: Students can1. learn some information about Western great inventions2. have a brief review of the usage about the passive voiceStep4Talk about the great inventions todayThe teacher willraise the question :”So what kind of great inventions(like phones,planes and TVs)are inven

17、ted today?The students willtalk about this in the present passive voice.Purpose: Both step 3 and 4 will help the students have a brief review about thepassive voice and the present voice which will help them better understand thestructure of the future passive voice.Task 3GrammarStep1Make sentences

18、and find the language rulesThe teacher will1) Show the students 3 pictures about the classrooms in different times( in thepast,today and the future.) and let them talk first .Later some pictures about theways the students study are shown.2) Ask the students to make different sentences to talk about

19、the ways thestudents study in different times. In this part ,the different structures of the passivevoice (from the past ,present to the future passive voice)will be used one by one.Then the students are going to1) talk about the pictures one by one.2) talk about the ways they study in the past,toda

20、y and future by using past passivevoice, present passive voice as well as the future passive voice.Purpose:1)Through making the sentences with different patterns of passive voice andstudying them ,the students will be able to summarize the different structures ofpassive voice from the sentence they

21、made by themselves.2)Learning in situations which related to themselves can make the studentsmore interested and excited. And that will help them better understand the grammarStep 2Summarize the language rulesThe teacher leads students to find the fact that there is a connection betweenthe passive v

22、oice and the tenses.Purpose: During this part, the students learn the grammar in situations whichrelated to themselves. That will be easy for the students to understand, find andsummarize by themselves .They are motivated to learn the grammar.Task 4Language in practiceStep1Language controlled useThe

23、 teacher will1)lead the student to notice the tenses of the sentences first.2) Asks the students to finish the exercises in the book and then check theanswers.The students will1) pay attention to the tenses of the sentences.2) finish the exercises.Purpose:To check the students command of the future

24、passive voice.Step 2Language situation useThe teacher willask the students to design a new classroom for the students in poor areas byusing the future passive voice,such as I think.will be added/bought/changedThe students willexpress their ideas by using the pattern.Purpose:The situation of design a

25、 new classroom makes it easy and interesting for thestudents to use the future passive voice . They will be very active in this activity.Step3Language free useThe teacher willraise two questions:1. What kind of great inventions will be invented in the future?2.How will our life be change by them?The

26、 students are going to1) discuss freely from different aspects like the traffic,clothes,food and so on.2) Of course, the future passive voice will be used when they expressthemselves freely.Purpose:In this activity,they can talk about any kind of great inventions they wantwhich makes them excited an

27、d active. Of course,this kind of group work can let thestudents share their own special ideas and appreciate each other.Step4Summarize1)The teacher and the students will summarize the 3 different tenses of thepassive voice together to consolidate the students memory of the structures.2)The teacher leads the students to find the influences of the great inventionsand encourage them to be hardworking and creative in order to make a difference.Homework1.Finish the reading part in activity 7.2.Search for some basic information about your favourite invention .
