Ernest Hemingway(1899-1961) was an American novelist and short-story writer who came to literary prominence following the First World War, as a member of the so called “Lost Generation ”in

16、the 1920s. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He had an understated prose style and a restrained method of exposition, which he termed the “ iceberg theory”(because he believed that a great deal could be understood in a narration even if it was deliberately unmentioned). His most famous n
