1、UNIT3 THE INTERNETThe language points of ReadingThe language points of the text:1.There are countless articles telling us how the internet has made our lives more convenient.注意:现在分词作后置定语:1)单个的现在分词作定语时,通常放在所修饰的名词之前,现在分词短语作定语时,通常放在所修饰词之后。A barking dog seldom bites.2)现在分词作定语有“doing”和“being done”两种形式。“d

2、oing”表示现在的状态或动作的正在进行,“being done”表示正在进行的被动动作。The meeting being held now is of great importance.3)现在分词短语作后置定语相当于一个定语从句:The people sitting at the back=The people who are sitting at the back.4)现在分词和过去分词都可以作定语:现在分词表示与所修饰的名词或代词之间是主谓关系,而过去分词表示分词与所修饰的名词或代词之间存在动宾关系:They are building a road _(lead)to the mou

4、ngs a present.2)Whenever(No matter when)you decide to go,I will keep you company.引导让步状语从句时,特殊疑问词+ever可以和no matter+特殊疑问词互换,但引导名词性从句时,只能用特殊疑问词+ever。eg:Wherever(no matter where)you are,you cant be happy without a friend.Whoever leaves the room at last ought to turn off the lights.(whoever 在此引导主语从句,不能用n

5、o matter who 来替换)3.At age of 50,she found herself out of work and stuck at home with only hee computer to keep her company.注意:find+宾语+宾补的复合结构和with+名词+to do 的结构。eg:I found my letter torn into pieces after I opened the drawer.When she woke up,she _in hospital4.She was so inspired by the people she met

6、 online that she decided to start IT club to teach older people how to use computers and internet.find+宾语+过去分词现在分词副词介词短语形容词或名词found herself lying句式分析:这是一个主从复合句,句子使用了so.that.结构,意为:如此.以至于.so是副词,that 是连词,在句中引导结果状语从句。eg:She was so angry that she couldnt say a word.Our team played so well that we won the

7、 game.so that 常用来引导目的状语从句:eg:Tom studies hard so that she can get good grade in last examination.思维拓展:so(中心词是形容词或副词)/such(中心词是名词).that.1)so+adj/adv+that.He studied so hard that he passed the important exam.2)so+adj+a/an+可数名词单数+that 从句 It is so intersting a book that I want to buy it.3)so+many/few/mu

8、ck/little+可数名词复数/不可数名词+that 从句 There is so much noise here that I cant hear you.4)such+a/an+adj+可数名词单数+that.eg:There is such an expensive car that I cant afford to buy it.5)such+adj+不可数名词/可数名词复数+that 从句。It was such fine weather that we decided to go on an outing.5.Now that he works and can take care

9、 of himself,his daughter has time to study at university.这是一个主从复合句,now that 引导的原因状语从句,his daughter has time to study at university是主句。辨析:now that/because/since/as/fornow that固定短语,意为“既然,由于”,引导原因状语从句,that可以省略because表示直接的或为人所不知的原因,语气最强,回答用why的提问since意为:“既然”表示已知或共知的原因,但并非直接原因。可与now that 互换as意为“由于”表示显而易见

10、或为人所知的原因,语气比because弱for意为“因为”,并列连词,表示补充说明的理由,引导分句,不能置于句首6.in shape:状况良好 get/stay in shape:保持体型 in good shape:精神或身体状态好 in bad/poor shape:精神状态不好 out of shape:变形,身体状况不佳 in the shape of:呈.的形状。eg:I must get in shape,otherwise I will lose the game.7.keep track of:掌握.的最新消息;了解.的动态。记录.I use a small notebook

11、to keep track of all the new sentences I learn.track and field:田径 lose track of:不了解情况,失去联系。keep to the track:坚持正道 on track :稳步前进 back on track:恢复正常;重新步入正确轨道 track(sb/sth)down:搜寻到;跟踪找到;追查到 eg:Keep track of your efforts and write down how you feel.8.add.to.把.加到.上Do you want to add your name to the lis

12、t?add up意为“合计;把.加起来”add to意为“添加;增添”其宾语多为困难、欢乐等抽象名词 add up to意为“合计达到”后面多为合计起来的数目,不用于被动语态。Every failure one meets with adds to ones experience.吃一堑,长一智。His whole education added up to no more than one year.9.make fun of 取笑;戏弄 play a joke on=play jokes on开.的玩笑,戏弄 make a joke of sth:拿某事开玩笑 play tricks/a
