3、ions,Literature cited,Acknowledgments,Further information2.A poster is very different from a paper or a talk,and so different techniques need to be used in its preparation.In particular,a poster is not a conference paper,and simply pinning a paper to a poster board usually makes a very poor poster.A
4、 poster board is typically 4 feet high and 6 feet wide,but the reverse orientation(tall and thin)is also seen.It is advisable to check beforehand on the size of the boards that will be available to you.A poster itself is a visual presentation comprising whatever the contributor wishes to display on
5、the poster board.Usually,a poster is made up entirely of sheets of paper pinned or attached with velcro strips to the board,but there is no reason why other visual aids should not be used.The pins or velcro are usually provided with the board by the conference sponsors.3.The purpose of a poster is t
6、o outline a piece of work in a form that is easily assimilated and stimulates interest and discussion.The ultimate aim is a fruitful exchange of ideas between the presenter and the people reading the poster,but you should not be disappointed if readers do not stop to chata properly prepared poster w

21、ork to an audience who is walking through a hallway or exhibit.In poster presentations at conferences,the presenter usually stands next to the poster,thus allowing for passers-by to engage in one-on-one discussions with the presenter.So then what makes for an effective poster?There are some DOs and
22、DONTs for the writing of an attracted conference poster:Tips and Notes 1.The number one mistake is to make your poster too long.Densely packed,high word-count posters attract only those viewers who are excited by manuscripts pasted onto walls,and you typically dont want to talk to those types of peo
23、ple.Theyre weird.Aim for 800 words,and remember that less than that is fine,too.2.Avoid titles with colons if you can.3.Sentence case is the also the easiest to read even if you dont have format information to preserve.4.Do not add bullets to section headings.The use of a bolded,larger font is suffi
24、cient for demarcating sections.5.The width of text boxes should be approximately 40 characters(on average,11 words per line).Lines that are shorter or longer are harder to read quickly.6.Avoid blocks of text longer than 10 sentences.7.Whenever possible,use lists of sentences rather than blocks of te
25、xt.8.Use italics instead of underlining.Underlining draws too much attention to the word.9.When you have quotations,make sure your software hasnt used the“double prime”glyph,instead.Double primes are used for inches(e.g.,511),and mathematical formulas.10.The best programs for designing large-format
