12、stroyed school buildings. Many people were also trapped in their homes. Reports said that entire towns and villages were completely wiped out in northern Pakistan. The serious damage was mainly because of poor buildings. Indian Ocean Earthquake Known as the SumatraAndaman earthquake, the Indian Ocea

13、n Earthquake happened on December 26, 2004. While the earthquake itself lasted for 10 seconds, it caused a tsunami (海啸). The tsunami killed about 200,000 to 310,000 people along the shores (海滨) of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South India and Thailand. There was one death even happening at Port Elizabeth in

20、ached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out. Pieces of glass that looked like crushed ice flew everywhere. Suddenly, a threefootlong tree branch crashed into the door frame. It flew over our heads, missing us by inches. Had we been one step up, it would have hit us. By the time I reached

21、 the cupboard, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the cupboard floor, but he couldnt get inside himself because of the wind. I held Jimmys arm and tried to bring Jimmy with it. My knees were full of glass, but at that moment, I felt no pain. If I had let go, Jim

22、my would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay. All of a sudden, Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies. I thought he was gone.
