Dragon dances are performed by a group of people who work together to bring the dragons powerful yet graceful movements to life. Look out for the final and also the most exciting part of the dance called cai qing which means “picking the greens”. Competing groups will battle each other very hard to get the red envelope hidden in the green vegetables. Eat and dress yourself up lucky Like any festival in China, Chinese New Year is all about food. So prepare to eat yourself lucky. A whole fish is a popular choice. Also, on New Years Day, dont clean anythingeven yourself or youll be washing away the good luck. Travel smart and cheap Generally speaking , it is best to avoid travel in China at all during the busy Spring Festival period known as chunyun. But if you fly on New Years Day, when offices are closed and Chinese families stay together, it can be surprisingly cheap with few passengers, particularly on popular routes, such as Beijing to Shanghai. B It hadnt been easy, but Elia Gonzalez had always managed to keep her family fed by stretching her husbands modest income as a cook at a restaurant in Puerto Rigs capital, San Juan. But that changed in mid-March, when those bars closed and her daughters school, where shed gotten free breakfast and lunch, did too. By April 20, Elia and her husband had to skip meals to save food for their children. Still, by the end of April, all they could give their children was a bowl of rice with an egg mixed in. Her sons, 4 and 5-year-olds, would ask for more. But her oldest daughter, Angellia, a talkative kindergartener, tried to comfort her mother. “She said, Mama, Im still hungry, Elia said, “but she told me it was OK because she was big and could wait until I got more food. That hit me hard. A study in 2015 found that 22 percent of adults reported skipping meals because they didnt have money for food in Puerto Rico. Now, the rate is much higher,“ said Jose Caraballo-Cueto, co-author of the study. The unemployment rate has risen to 46 percent and the average saving rate here is zero. The worsening food crisis has brought people in Puerto Rico closer. Christel Galindez, a community leader, has been picking up thirty cooked meals a day from a church near her home and delivering them to different families every day. Do you know when people are really in need?” Christel asked. When you show up with a plate of food and they start to cry! During her daily food delivery run last Wednesday, she drove up to Elias front door playing a birthday song through her cars speakers. Angellia rushed out with a big smile and started dancing to the music when Christel handed three containers of food and three cupcakes to her mother. Thank you so much. Today happened to be Angellias sixth birthday. But I had nothing in the kitchen, said Elia, who was struggling to hold back her tears. 24. Where had Elias daughter got her breakfast and lunch on her schooldays? A. At home.B. At her fathers restaurant. C. At school.D. At a church in the neighborhood. 25. To introduce a new topic for discussion. 26. Why did Christel come to Elias house? A. She was on her way to help those in need. B. She was sent by a church to deliver food. C. She came to celebrate Elias birthday. D. She made some cupcakes for the children. 27, What is the best title for the text? A Angellia, a Lovely GirlB. The Health Crisis in San Juan C. Crisis Can Bring People CloserD. Hunger Spreads Quickly in Puerto Rico C Elon Musk isnt content with electric cars, shooting people into orbit and populating Mars. He also wants to get inside your brain. His goal is to develop devices that can provide treatment to neural(神经的)diseasesand that may one day be powerful enough to put humanity on an equal footing with possible future super intelligent computers. Not that its anywhere close to that yet. In a video Friday obviously aimed at seeking new employees, Musk showed off the second version of the Neuralink, a device about the size of a large coin. Its designed to be put in a persons head. An earlier version of the device has to be placed behind an ear like a huge hearing aid. But the young company is far from having a commercial product, which would involve complex human trials and governmental approval. Fridays video showed three pigs. One, named Gertrude, had a Neuralink device in its brain. Musk, a founder of both the electric car company Tesla Motors and the space-exploration firm SpaceX, has always been worried about that smarter AI machines will outwit humans. His solution? Link our brains to computers so we can keep up with or even win over them in intelligence! Musk urged coders(程序员),engineers and especially people who have actually created a product to apply. You dont need to have brain experience,“ he said, adding that this is something that can be learned on the job. Connecting a brain up directly to electronics is not new. Doctors have already put similar devices in brains to treat such conditions as Parkinsons disease. In 2016, researchers reported that a man regained some movement in his own hand with a similar brain implant. But Musks proposal goes beyond this. Neuralink wants to build on those existing medical treatments and work on devices that could link our brains to computers one day. 28. What can we learn about the first version of the Neuralink? A. It is smaller than a hearing aid.B. It can be put in a persons head. C. It has to be placed behind the ear.D. It is already available at the market. 29. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “outwit” in paragraph 6? A. Copy.B. Defeat.C. Understand.D. Destroy. 30. What kind of candidates does Elon Musk particularly want? A. Someone who also wants to create the same device. B. Doctors who already know how to treat brain diseases. C. People who have already designed some unique product. D. Engineers who are good at linking brains to computers. 31. Where is this text likely from? A .An advertisement. B. A test report.C. A science fiction. D. A news report. D This week, four CO VID-19 vaccines (疫苗)have appeared highly effective in preventing the COVID-19 disease and will roll out to market soon. On November 17, Sinovac, a Chinese biotech company, published its promising results from Phase(阶段)1 and 2 trials in the medical journal The Lancet. The data shows that the vaccine, Corona Vac, has produced a very quick and strong immune response and did not cause any severe side effects among the 700 people tested. Sinovac has already started the Phase 3 tests in UAE, Brazil, Indonesia and Bangladesh since July 3. Initial Phase 3 data is likely to be available within the next month. (Update: the Phase 3 tests in UAE have shown that Corona Vac is 86% effective and UAE has officially approved it for nationwide use.) One day earlier, Moderna reported that its vaccine is 94% effective and strongly protects against serious COVID-19 illness. On November 18, Pfizer announced that its vaccine is 95% effective. Britains Oxford-AstraZeneca group said on November 23 that its vaccine is up to 70% effective. However, Corona Vac may have a series of potential advantages over the mRNA vaccines produced by Moderna and Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca groups DNA vaccines, since there hasnt been any mRNA or DNA vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before, while Corona Vac is based on a tried-and-true method that uses weakened or dead COVIE-19. Another big advantage for Corona Vac is the storage temperature as it can be stored between 2 and 8 for up to three years, while the mRNA vaccines have to be kept between-20 and - 70. It would make their storage and distribution really challenging, especially in the developing countries. Although we are seeing lights by the end of the tunnel, its important to remember that an effective vaccine is not enough to end the crisis quickly, because it will take months to produce enough vaccines and distribute them. Therefore, measures like social distancing, washing hands and wearing face masks will remain essential to control the spread of COVID-19. 32. Which country has agreed to use CoronaVac for all the people? A. UAE. B. Brazil.C. Indonesia. D. Bangladesh. 33. How does Sinovac differ from Pfizers and Modernas vaccines? A. It is much more effective. B. It is a kind of mRNA vaccine. C. It is based on a more mature method. D. It has to be stored in extremely low temperature. 34. What is the purpose of the last part of the text? A. To warn the risk of the new vaccines. B. To remind people not to let down their guard. C. To show the difficulty in distributing the vaccines. D. To tell people how to prevent the spread of COVTD-19. 35 What is the text mainly about? A. The differences of the various vaccines. B. The potential advantages of CoronaVac. C. The disadvantages of the mRNA and DNA vaccines. D. The Phase 1 trial results of four COVID-19 vaccines. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2. 5 分,满分 12. 5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Online security generally refers to keeping others from getting access to your online information. 36 .
