10、A Brochure is an instructive writing lesson. Given a brochure entitled How to Survive an Earthquake, students will be guided to acquire practical self-rescue measures when facing a disaster in the form of concise language and vivid illustrations. Make students truly master the knowledge and can appl

11、y it to their daily lives. Before this class, students have studied the first four lessons related to the topic, which are: Topic Talk The beginning of the unit. In this part, topics like natural scenery, natural disasters, living things, environmental protection are introduced by a mind map. Lesson

12、1 A Sea Story An adaptation from a short novel, A Descent into the Maelstrom, tells a fantastic story of a fisherman who went through but survived the Moskoe-storm . Inspire the students to realize that, in front of nature, the power of humans is insignificant. But if they are calm when facing a dis

13、aster and find the law of the nature, they can successfully survive a disaster. Lesson2 Professional Rescue Team Taking the earthquake rescue in Wenchuan and Nepal as examples, this lesson introduces the professional rescue team in China and the self-rescue guidance given by experts. To help student

14、s better understand the work of professional rescue team, and realise the humanitarian value of life first in the process of rescue operation. Lesson3 Race to the pole Through the expedition of two Antarctic research teams, this lesson emphasise the the spirit of adventure that humans show in the pr

15、ocess of exploring the nature. Captain Scott and his team are highly admired for their scientific research spirit and great courage when moving forward to their goals. Analysis of Students A Brochure is in the fifth unit of compulsory Module 2 in Senior High School and the students are from Grade 1.

16、 After the previous study, students have acquired some background knowledge and vocabulary related to Humans and Nature. Most of the students can explore the content independently, cooperate and communicate with others with the encouragement of teachers. Their logical thinking and critical thinking

17、have developed on the basis of the early learning. However, they still lack the professional knowledge related to surviving a disaster and may be unable to express themselves coherently in concise language. Teaching Important Points 1. 26、etween students basic knowledge and the background information of natural disasters, some students failed to understand the content of the video efficiently, so it will be difficult to continue to write , reconstruct the structure. And some of them can not think deeply about the relationship between humans and nature.
