Teaching design Teacher外海街道中心小学,汤瑞兰 Students The target students are in Grade 3 in Waihai Central Primary School and its the first year for most of them to learn English. They are aged about 8 years old, already having an exact idea about the food and drinks they like. In period 1 of this unit, students have learned four words (cake, noodles, ice cream and yum) and two sentence patterns (I like. and I dont like.). Type of lessonPeriod 2 of Unit 7 Teaching objectives 1. Students are able to read, write and use three words (bread, rice and milk) and a sentence pattern ( What do you like? I like. . ). 2. Student can read with the right tone. 3. Students can form the habit of cooperative learning. 4. Students can build up awareness of cherishing food and drinks. Prediction of learning difficulties 1. Students may find it difficult to sound “br” in the word bread. 2. Students may find it difficult to read and understand some words that they never learn in the practice part. Revision 1. Chant 1: Students sing a song to review the words and sentence patterns that they learned last lesson. 2. Chant 2: Students sing the song with the same rhythm but different words to review the words of animals that they learned before. 3. Revision of the clue of the unit. Show a picture of Guifeng Mountain to recall students memory of the topic of this unit- having a picnic. 4. Revision of the words and sentence patterns. Show the pictures of the words students learned in period 1. Use smile face and sad face to show like and dislike. Students try to review and read them. Presentation 1. Show students the picture of the new word bread. Teach student the “b”, “r” and “br” sound. Students try to read and spell the word(drive a train). Use question mark to guide students to ask “What do you like? I like. .” 2. The same with the words rice and milk. 3. Song. Students learn and sing the song What do you like? 4. Game: Pass the ball. When the music is played, students sing the song just learned. When the music is stopped, the student who is the closest to teacher should stand up and read as well as spell the word that teacher show. 5. Target. Teach target under the supposition that Jenny, Tong and Gogo are discussing for their picnic. Teacher plays the tape. Student listen and try to follow. Practice 1. Role play. Students practice the dialogue in group and teacher invite 3 groups to come to the act. 2. Fill in the blank. Students try to fill in the blank according to some tips. 3. Group discussion. Students try to read and fill in the blank in the dialogue under the supposition that Jenny, Tony and Gogo are in the park. 4. Role play. Students practice in group and try to act out the dialogue. 5. Group work. Change the background and suppose Tony and Gogo are in the zoo, what will they say. Students make up the dialogue and teachers invite two pairs to read their answer. SummaryShow pictures and remind students of cherishing food, teaching students that food is life.
