This part of teaching material is based on Unit 4 When is Easter?, Grade 5. It helps the kids revise the vocabulary of months and cardinal numbers, learn the new drills :” When is your birthday? My birthday is on” Then ask and answer some peoples birthday with the main drills. 2. This lesson was based on Part A, Unit 4, Book 2 for Grade 5 students. Since Part A has covered the main drills and the coordinal numbers, the focus of this lesson was to develop students ability in using the main drills in communication. I.Teaching analysis About the students: The kids in Grade 5 have learned English for 3 years so far, they have mastered some words and communication sentences. They have taken a great interest in English. II. Objectives1. Knowledge Objectives 1) Students will be able to listen, read and say “When is your birthday?” “ My birthday is on” What will you do for your mum?” “Ill cook noodles for her”. 2) Be able to listen, read and say the cardinal numbers, e.g. First, second, third, fourth, fifteenth etc. 3) Understand the whole dialogue. 2. Ability Objectives 1) Students can understand, and act the dialogue. 2) Students can use the main drills in the communication in their daily life. 3. Emotion Objectives Students learn from the class and know that they should be grateful to their mum ,dad and everyone who takes care of them and do something for them. e.g. Say Happy Birthday to them on their birthdays. III. Teaching Focused Key points1. Students can communicate with the main drills today. 2. Students can understand the meaning of “We can have a birthday party for both of you.” 3. Act the dialogue. Difficult Points Make a new dialogue and act it out IV. Teaching 1. Four P teaching method( Preparation, presentation, Methodspractice, production) 2. Communicative Approach: Students discuss with each other, working in pairs and groups to master the main drills and new words to get prepared for making a new dialogue. 3. Task-based Language Teaching: Students are given tasks in the class so that they can get involved and learn positively. 4. TPR: Students do the actions, sing and even dance .They enjoy the class so that they can learn happily and positives. V. Teaching Preparations 1. Cards of new words. 2. Videos. 3. PPT. 4. Boards VI. Teaching Procedures Teaching activitiesLearning activities Strategies and purposes Step 1 Lead- in Warm-up. 1)Greet each other 2) Brain storm. Lead-in Greet each other . Read out the months as quickly as they can. Students try 1)To help the kids be relaxed and get them ready for class. 2) Revised the words of months and lay the foundation for this section. Arouse the kids Step2 Presentation Talk about my favourite month and tell the reason. 1)Listen and get the answer to “When is Mikes birthday?” 2)Watch a video and find the answer to “ When is Chen Jies mums birthday? 3)Do a survey 4) Read after the tape and find the answer to “What will Chen Jie do to guess and find out my birthday in on that month. Students listen to the dialogue once Students watch the video and try to follow. Students ask three people at least, then do a report. Students read after the tape and underline interests and review the drills for talking about birthdays. Activate the students to be interested in the topic . Make students more familiar with the dialogue. In this way the students can practice the main drills in a relaxing environment. Learn the dialogue again, lay the for her mum?” 5).Talk in pairs. 6) Show some words , endings, beginnings. 7)Ending. Show the students two sentences . the answer to the question. What will you do for your mum. Tell your desk mates. Make a new dialogue. Students read and know what to do at home. foundation for making a new dialogue later after learning. Write and read your letter to your mum or dad. 1.Help the kids to revise the key points today in real communication . 2. Show their love to their parents. VIII.Board Designing IX. Teaching Reflection Firstly, Following the task based language teaching approach. I designed six tasks for the lesson. These tasks were closely associated and contained activities for students at various proficiency levels. Secondly, The lesson moved from easy to more challenging activities, allowing students at different levels to participate in the activities. Thirdly, I gave the kids a hug, a big hand when they did a good job. This motivated students to be encouraged in the lesson. Fourthly, I designed some open questions in my class. In this way, I helped the kids think in English, ask in English and answer in English. Moreover, work in pairs and groups. I help the kids form the team spirit and learn from each other. Apparently , there are still some problems that need to be improved: 1. The lesson aimed to develop students four languages skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. But, time is limited, not all students can show their new dialogues and survey in class. To tackle this problem, I have to assign some writing tasks as homework. 2. Its really hard for me to take care of everyone in the class. There might be some who hasnt mastered the key points of this lesson yet. I need to help them after class. This is a simple review of this class. Thanks.
