Activity 6 Homework Make a poster about saving the tigers! Teaching Design of Lesson 17 Save the Tigers1. The position of the teaching materialThe content of my lesson is Lesson 17 of Unit 3, Book4, New Junior English for China, published by Hebei Education Press. The topic of this lesson is Save the Tigers. By studying this lesson, we know that the number of the tigers is quickly decreasing in recent years, and the tigers have been in danger, so it is our responsibility to do something to protect the tigers. Protecting animals is helpful to the environment. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of protecting the environment.2. Teaching AimsAccording to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus and after studying the teaching material, the teaching aims are as the following:First, Id like to enable the students to master some words and expressions about tigers and tigers protecting and help them understand the content of this lesson. Second, Id like to guide the students to analyze the structure of the whole text, develop their abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing , especially their reading ability and set up their effective studying strategies by training the Ss abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating. As for the moral object, Id like to get the students to be aware of the importance of protecting animals, and try to find good ways to protect animals. Meanwhile, Ill pay more attention to increasing the students interest in learning and setting up their self-confidence by completing the task. 3. The Important and Difficult PointsBased on the requirement of the syllabus, the important point that Im going to deal with is to guide the students to get the structure of the whole lesson and find some sentences to support the main idea of each paragraph. As for the difficult point, what Im going to do is to get the students to work in groups, flying their imagination and try to find good ways to protect the animals.4. Teaching ProceduresStep1 Pre-reading (Lead-in)Id like to act as a tiger with a picture of “王”on the forehead and get the students to guess who I am, and tell the students that I used to live a comfortable life ,but now Im homeless and feel very lonely and have to ask for help.The purpose of my lead-in is to attract the students attention for them to think more about how to save the tiger so as to arouse the Ss interest in learning. Step2 :While-reading Task 1: SkimmingDoing fast reading is a good way to train the students ability of reading comprehension, so the first thing Id like to do is to ask the students to look through the passage and find the main idea of each paragraph within very short time. Task 2: ScanningIn order to help the students understand the passages better, Id like to get the students to read the passages again and find out the sentences to support the main idea. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.Work in pairs to talk about some questions in different paragraphs after reading the passage.e.g. Questions:1.Whats the number at the beginning of the 20th century? What about todays number?2.Why are tigers important to the environment?3. Why are tigers in danger of disappearing? Step3. Post-reading(Discussing)As the students know the whole reading passage, Id like to get them to work in groups to have a discussion about the ways to protect animals and then give a report about how we should get on well with animals. After the students discussion, a representative from each group may present their report to the class. This is a good way to train the students ability of team work. Step4. Summary At the end of the class, Id like to give a summary that animals are our friends, each of us has the responsibility to protect animals. There is saying “One world, one dream”, but here Id like to say “One world, one home”. Lets work together to build a beautiful home for the animals to create a harmonious world.Step5 HomeworkMy homework in this lesson is to get the students to write a report about how to protect animals. Homework is important and necessary for the students to master the knowledge they have learned. Also it is a good way to cultivate the students comprehensive ability. 5. Blackboard DesignWhile teaching, I will use a mind map to show the structure of the text so that the students may get a clue of the text and have a better understanding of the whole text. 6. Teaching ReflectionAs a teacher, what I should do in teaching is to act as a guider, an organizer and a director who play a role to help the students to become more independent and successful learners.
