It is the second period of this unit, whose topic is computers. The topic is of great importance for a middle school student for two reasons. Firstly, the students can understand the development of computers, the application of computers and the future of computers by reading and discussion. Middle school students are eager for knowledge and curious about the things around, and this text gives them detailed information. Secondly, it is an introduction of computers using the simplest words, and sentences. When it comes to talking about computers or technology, the students often feel at a loss. After this lesson, the students can express themselves freely about computers. This period plays an important part in this module. After the warming up, the students are really ready to talk about computers. This text presents a good example. In my opinion, reading lesson outweigh other lessons to some degree because the students can never express efficiently and write a good article without reading something. Teaching Aims:1. Knowledge aims :Learn some words and expressions, such as realize, be unaware of, depend on, speed and so on; have a knowledge of the characteristics of the article about descriptive writing.2. Ability aims:Train the students reading skills and speaking skills through reading and the ability to find relative information.3. Moral Aims:By reading and discussion, the student can get a clear outline of the development of computers, the application of computers, the future of computers and be motivated to think of the future of computers and the relationships between computers and human beings, thus arousing their enthusiasm to explore the world.Teaching Important Points:1. to help the students analyze the content of the text and its connection with the title;2. to help the students conclude the characteristics of the article about describing 2computers;3. to help the students master the skill of guessing the content with the help of the sub-headings, the meaning of a certain word with the help of the context clues, and the skill of argumentative writing. 4. to help the Ss master the words and expressions related to the text.Teaching Difficult Points:1. Comprehension and application of the new words and expressions;2. To express their opinions openly and frequently;3. Improve their ability to summarize the general idea of a passage.Teaching Aids:A multi-media and a blackboardTeaching method:1. Task-based teaching method2. Pair work and teamwork3. Discussion I have already divided the whole class into 6 teams. Each student is encouraged to work in a team during and after the class. When one of the team members finishes one task, they can gain one point for their group. The students play an active role in my class. During this lesson, they also work as a group, so those who volunteer to make a speech will gain one point for his/her team.Learning method:Traditional reading and then complete the task through pair work and teamworkTeaching ProceduresActivityExplanation to the activityLeading-in (4 mins)Show the student a short video about autonomous driving cars, ask them what is special for the cars in the video. 1. What make up a computer?Based on the last period, the students have already got some knowledge of computers, so they can say something. And the students will be greatly motivated to join in the class.Reading1. pre-reading(2 mins)Ask the students to skim the text, ask them to look at the sub-headings and then answer the following questions: 1. Fast-Reading Watch a video for the first part ( 3mins)Watch a video about the development of computers to help students understand the content, and lead to the introduction of the development of computers. Because the text is simple and kind of out of date, so it is important to supplement the text. A video is a good choice, for it contains much information and its easy for middle school students to understand. The following two parts also pick up this process of reading, that is, think/guess, watch, and read. This process is intended to train the Students ability to find relative information through the video and get students familiar with what they are going to read.3.3. Detailed- reading for the first part (5 mins)Task: Read the first paragraph and fill in the table. After reading the text, they are asked to do group work, exchanging notes with one another, and then report their result in the class.
