3、cedures Step 1 Lead-in T asks Ss the following questions about The Jungle Book after they watched it the previous day. Ss are required to answer them in full sentences. Who is the main character of the film? A boy named Mowgli is the main character of the film. How long does the film last? The film
4、lasts nearly two hours. 2 Can you give a brief introduction to it? Based on Rudyard Kiplings book of the same title, the film describes the story of Mowgli. Mowgli and his animal friends live happily in the jungle until one day Shere Khan the tiger returns. Which version do you prefer, the 2-D versi

6、he rules. Subject-verb agreement means choosing the correct singular or plural verb after the subject. The verb should be singular if the subject is a singular noun, an uncountable noun, a book/film title, a verb-ing form, a pronoun like everyone, and a phrase of measurement like two hours; the verb
7、 should be plural if the subject is a plural noun and a phrase of two or more words linked by and, referring to two or more objects or people. When not only . but also . is used as the subject of a sentence, or there be is followed by two or more nouns as the subject of a sentence, the verb agrees w

A singular noun as the subject: the verb should be singular; a plural noun as the subject: the verb should be plural. An infinitive, a verb-ing form and a clause as the subject: the verb s

Each, anyone, everyone, somebody, something, anything etc. as the subject: the verb should be singular. “Each/every + noun” and “each/every + noun” as the subject: the verb should be singular. According to the law of the jungle, every tiger and every bear has (have) the right to live freely in the jungle. “The + adjective” (the old, the young, the rich, etc.) as the subject: the verb should be plural. Plural nouns indicating time, distance or money as the subject:
14、the verb should be singular. Singular collective nouns (such as family, team, class, group, etc.) as the subject: the verb should be singular if it is considered as a whole. “The rest of/most of/half of/the majority of/20% of + noun” as the subject: the verb should agree with the noun. Exercises: In
15、 the kingdom of jungle, the young are (be) taken good care of. Two hours seems (seem) very short when you are enjoying the film. Notional agreement 5 Mowgli knows his family in the jungle is (be) a happy one. His family are (be) playing happily in the jungle. Mowgli realizes that most of his animal
16、friends in the jungle are (be) kind. In the sentence structure “there be + noun”, the verb should agree with the noun closest to it. When “not A but B”, “either A or B”, “neither A nor B” and “not only A but also B” is used as the subject, the verb should agree with B. When “A (together) with B” is
17、used as the subject, the verb should agree with A. Exercises: There is (be) enough tension and humour to hold your attention during the whole film. There lives (live) a terrible tiger and some friendly animals in the jungle. There live (live) some friendly animals and a terrible tiger in the jungle.
