C Read and write Analysis of textbook: : The content of this period belongs to PEP Book I for grade six. Read and write is the fifth period of Unit 6. The topic is Robin and the Ant. Students should mainly know the basic feelings. Meanwhile students can imagine the following plot about the story. They can use different feelings to express their ideas and retell the story. We should develop students language and foster their thinking abilities. Analysis of students: Students have learnt English for three years. They have the basic ability of reading a story. Students can get the main idea of this story with the help of the picture. Students have rich imagination. They can share their ideas with us. Students can develop their language according to different imagination. They can use pictures and simple sentences to retell the story. Anyway, their language is useful and meaningful in the situation. Different students in different levels can develop their language and ability by learning this story. Teaching aims: 1. Knowledge aim: Students are able to read the story and get the main idea, at the same time, they can guess the meaning of the new words in the context. 2. Ability aim: Students can finish the tasks and get a certain ability of reading English, especially improve their reading and writing ability. 3. Emotional aim: Guide students to be helpful in our daily life. Important and difficult points: Important points: 1. The ant is afraid. Robin is worried. They are happy. Difficult points: 1. Students can get the meaning of the words: feel, afraid, worried, stuck, mud, pull out of. 2. Be able to retell the story. Teaching Methods & Learning Methods: : 1. Audio-lingual Method、Audio-Visual Method、Situational Teaching. 2. Cooperative learning, Inquiry learning Teaching aids: Textbook, blackboard, chalk, Seewo and the word cards. Teaching procedure: Step1 Warm-up and lead in 1. Self-Introduce and greetings 2. Lets say: How do you feel? Why? PurposeThis part will try to attract students interests and prepare for the story they will read. Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Show the cover of the story and ask: What can you see in the cover? S: I can see (The ant, Robin, green grasses and trees, a blue sky) (Who-where-the weather) 2. Teacher points to Robin and ask: How does Robin feel?” S: “He is happy!”T:“Why?” Purpose The cover of a story is important and helpful for students to read the story. Lead students to be curious about the story. Step3While-reading 1. Lead students read the story for the first time by listening to radio, then ask: Whats the story about? S: Robin and the ant help each other. 2. Read the story by four pictures, (1)Look at picture 1 and answer the questions: What can you see in the picture? S: Its an ant. How does the ant feel? Lets listen. S: He is afraid. Why is he afraid? Lead students to open the book and turn to page62, then try to find the answer. T: Who can find the answer? S: Robin is going to sit on the grass. T: So the ant says: “Dont sit on me. One day I can help you.” Teacher will lead students to read the sentences by imitating the intonation of the ant. Does Robin sit on the grass? S: No, he doesnt. T: Robin doesnt sit on the grass. He says: “Dont worry. Little ant. I wont sit on you.” Teacher will lead students to read the sentences by imitating the intonation of Robin. What do you think of Robin? S: He is (good, kind, nice, cute) T: I think he is helpful. (2) Look at picture 2 and answer the questions: How does Robin feel? S: He is worried. Why is he worried? S: He is stuck in the mud. Lead students to guess the meaning of the new words by using the pictures: stuck, mud. (3) Show the picture 3 and ask the questions: Who can help Robin? S: The ant. T: I have a question: Can only one ant help Robin? Why? Teacher will lead students to watch a video to get the answer: One ant is small, but many ants are strong. Union is strength. So the ant has friends. They are strong. T: So the ants say: “Lets help you!” Teacher will lead students to read the sentences by imitating the intonation of the ant. What can the ants do to help Robin? S: They pull Robin out of the mud. T: One two three pull, one two three pull, pull pull pull (Do the action) What do you think of the ant? S: He is, too. (good, kind, nice, cute, strong) T: I think he is helpful. He pulls Robin out of the mud. (4) Show the picture 4 and ask the questions: So in the end, they help each other. How do they feel? S: They are happy. Helping people makes them happy. purpose Students can understand the story with the help of the pictures and questions. Step4 Post reading 1. Listen to the tape and repeat after it. 2. Tips for pronunciation: Dont sit on me. I wont sit on you, 3. Read in roles. The teacher is Robin and one student is the little ant. Other students are narrators. 4. Listen to the tape about the story and number the pictures. Students will read the story again and number the pictures in correct order. Check the answer and analyze. The answer is 3-2-1-4. 5. Fill in the blanks. Let students read the story the last time and complete the sentences. The ant is_. Robin is stuck and_. The ants are strong. They_. Now everyone_.
