Then main content of this lesson is about Qomolangma, which belongs to extreme sports.The spirit of the mountain climbers will encourage the students to face the difficulties bravely and never give up. Therefore, this lesson is practically useful and important. .Teaching Aims Knowledge aim: Students will master the new words, the basic facts of Qomolangma and the spirit of mountain climbers. Ability aim: Students are expected to develop reading strategies and comprehensive skills. Emotion aim: Students will learn the spirit from the mountain climbers that when they meet the difficulties in their lives, they will never give up. .Key and difficult points Key points: 1. Master the new words and expressions. 2. Learn how to express the facts and figures. 3. The reading strategies to comprehend the passage. Difficult points: Develop Students comprehensive skill. Part 2 Analysis of the Students After learning English for several years, the students in Grade 8 have basic abilities of English. However, they might be afraid of reading long, especially non-story passages.So I will create an interesting teaching situation. And they are interested in competitions and games. They also enjoy learning by cooperating with classmates in a relaxing atmosphere. Part 3 Teaching and learning methods Teaching methods: audio-visual method, task-based method and communicative method. Learning methods: autonomic learning method, cooperative learning method and competitive learning method. Teaching aids: a multi-media computer and blackboard Part 4 Teaching Procedures There are six steps in my teaching procedure. Step 1 Lead-in 1.First, greet the students. 2.Then, students will guess what the topic of this class is. I will invite a student who wears all sports clothes to the front of the classroom.Students can guess it naturally “mountain climbing”. 2. T: Which mountain did you ever climb? Did you ever think of climbing the highest mountain in the world? What is the highest mountain in the world? 4. Free talk.:Why dont you want to climb Qomolangma? 5. Watch a video about Qomolangma, then students can have a basic impression of it. Step 2 Pre-reading As a “geography” teacher, I will show more pictures about Qomolangma. In the mean time, teach students new words. Step 3 While-reading Extensive reading Skim the passage and find the main idea of the passage. Then match each paragraph with its main idea. Meanwhile, introduce the reading strategy-skimming. Intensive reading 1. Students will read paragraph 1 and underline the facts about Qomolangma and the dangers for climbers.Meanwhile, introduce the reading strategy-scanning.Then, watch a video about the dangers of Qomolangma. 2. As a “geography” teacher, I will introduce these great mountain climbers in this passage to students first. Then students will read paragraph 2 and fill in the chart. 3. Students will read paragraph 3 and underline the answers to the two questions.Then I will invite two students to share their answers. Step 4 Post-reading 1.Group work The title of the passage is Qomolangma - the Most Dangerous Mountain in the World? What do you think of it? Do you think Qomolangma is the most dangerous mountain in the world? Divide Four students into a group and have a discussion.They can write down their opinions. Then invite several students to the front of the classroom to share their opinions with class.After that, ask a team of students to stick their paper to the blackboard. 2.Lets chant. Read the poem. Make students have a deeper understanding of this passage. Step 5 Emotion Life is just like mountain climbing. If you have a dream, try to achieve it and never give up.(Write on the blackboard) Just as a song says:Anyone who has a dream is extraordinary. So keeping trying and never give up.
