2、re was a tropical depression. It hit mainly the Southern states, including the south of Florida, louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. It lasted more than one week. Over 1800 people lost their lives in the hurricane. It caused USD 108 billion in damage. Hurricane Katrina, struck the southeasternUnite

3、d States in late August2005. Thehurricane and its aftermath claimed more than 1,800 lives, and it ranked as the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history. 1 Why didnt the author really remember much about the hurricane itself? It all happened so quickly. 2 What was the author doing then? He was sit

4、ting in his room with his cat, Smartie, on his lap. 3 What about the situation? What did he feel at that time? The roof flew off. All of a sudden, there was sky where the roof had been. 5、ckly, but it was already too late by then. The rain was coming down so hard and so fast . Our street turned into a river in seconds. We were going nowhere. 6、was too dangerous. There was water everywhere, but the drinking water was never enough. It was August and very hot. So it smelled so bad everywhere. The author spent the days watching the boats going up and down the street and looking out for Smartie. He felt disappointed , helpless, worried . What

Although it was only a few days before we were rescued , it felt like months. We

8、were taken to another town in a faraway county. Thankfully, Smartie came home just in time. We were so happy to take him with us, although then, none of us knew that we wouldnt be back for quite a while. I m back home in New Orleans. Some families have yet to return, but many others have come back.

9、Although we are surrounded by reminders of the disaster, we are working together to rebuild our homes and our lives.
