Lesson Plan for “Happy Holidays”, Unit 6 Reading and writing: Happy Holidays Analysis of the Teaching Material The content of this lesson is a reading passage of unit 6. The passage consists of 7 paragraphs. After learning this passage, student should understand the passage through some reading strategies as well as master the key words and phrases by deducing the meaning from the context. Analysis of the students Our students are in grade six. The students in my class are at medium level, who are active, curious and motivated. They have great interest in English dialogue. Language skills 1. Comprehend the whole dialogue and find out the main idea by some reading skills and strategies. 2. Guess the meaning of words and phrases by deducing from the context. 3. Use the key words and phrases to do a role play. Language knowledge understand the following words and phrases: watch the moon, clean up, trash Learning strategies skim for the main idea of the dialogue. Teaching objectives (By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:) Affect interested in reading ancient stories of other countries and foster students consciousness of good-cooperation and proper competition. Teaching focus how to help students ask and answer the following questions: What did they do in Hainan? Difficult points how to help students use the important words and patterns correctly and skillfully. Teaching approaches and aids Teaching approach: The P-W-P model of reading Teaching aids: Computer, projector, blackboard Teaching procedure Step 1 Warming-up and greeting 1.Sing a song: The more we get together. 2. Discussion: When people will stay together? Step 2 Presentation 1. Show some pictures of holidays and play a guessing game. 2.Lead out the place(Hainan), and ask some questions. 3.Present the dialogue and lead out three tasks. (1) Ask some questions: What holiday was it? Where was he? What did he do near the beach? (2) Listen and follow the tape. (Emotion Education: Group work is powerful. We should work together.) (3) Read the interview loudly. Step 3 Consolidation 1.Do a role play. 2.Do a group work to write the report in a short way. (Give them emotion education about the protection of the environment) Step 4 Development Write some reports about the holidays in their hometown. Step5 Conclusion and homework Sum up and do the revision of what we have learnt in this class. (New words and reading strategies) homework: 1. Read P70 three times. 2. Send the report to China Daily.
